Cambridge Quakers have for many years made their facilities at the Friends Meeting House, Jesus Lane available to community, voluntary and educational organisations for meetings, classes and other functions. Requests for lettings for a wide range of purposes can be considered. However, we do not allow use for commercial purposes, for ticketed events, or for parties or receptions. No smoking or consumption of alcoholic drinks is allowed. Copies of the Standard Terms and Conditions for lettings are available on request.
Rooms
Six rooms, ranging in capacity from 8 to 120 seated persons, are available for letting.
Facilities
Access for people with disabilities
The main entrance doors are fitted with powered opening/closing units which are operated using wall-mounted push-pads. There are no steps to negotiate either to enter the Meeting House or when inside (with exception of access to the Caroline Stephen Room), and there is a lift to the upper floor. A wheelchair-accessible W.C. which meets all current guidelines is available on the ground floor. There is a hearing induction loop in the Meeting Room.
Baby-changing facilities
A table and mat are available to carers of either sex.
Kitchen
A good-sized and well-equipped kitchen is available for use on a self-catering basis. Hot or cold drinks can be made for up to eighty people and simple meals for up to forty. The kitchen should be booked in advance.
Lecture aids, etc.
Piano; video-tv and trolley; digital projector and speakers; overhead projector; slide projector, screen and table; flipchart easel; whiteboard and easel; blackboard and easel. These facilities should be booked in advance.
Availability
The rooms in the Meeting House are generally available for letting:
| Monday to Friday | Mornings (except Thursday), Tuesday afternoon and all evenings |
| Saturday | Mornings and afternoons |
| Sundays | Not available. |
It is possible to use a room for a single meeting or for a series of regular meetings. Demand for lettings is heavy, especially on certain days and at certain times of year, so it is advisable to request bookings as far in advance as possible. Bookings for Saturdays should always be requested at least six weeks in advance of the desired date.
Charges
Rates are kept to the minimum necessary to meet the day-to-day running costs of the Meeting House and are among the lowest for rooms in central Cambridge.
How to book
For further information or to request a booking, please contact the resident Wardens at the Meeting House in person, by telephoning 01223 357535 or by e-mailing wardens at jesus-lane.cambridge-quakers.org.uk. A written application may be necessary from groups which have not previously used the Meeting House. Provisional bookings may be made only for dates more than four weeks ahead, and a provisional booking which has not been confirmed four weeks before the booked date will automatically be cancelled. For booking conditions, please see the Standard Terms and Conditions, which are available on request. Individual bookings may be subject to additional conditions.
